stay healthyStudies have shown that the more often you cook at home, the more successful your weight loss plan will be. However, busy schedules often eat into cooking time and derail your good intentions. Quick and easy meals can keep you on track with your very low calorie diet (VLCD). Below are some tasty suggestions for meals that are quick, easy and flavorful.
Please remember that the amount of protein allowed during the “Losing Phase” is 3.5 to 4 ounces and adjust recipes accordingly. In the maintenance phase no more than 8 ounces of protein a day should be consumed. All recipes below serve four, but the portions can be adjusted for the phase you are currently on.

Shrimp with Tomatoes and Cauliflower Rice
Vegetable broth as needed
1 small onion, chopped
1 28-ounce can diced tomatoes, drained
Salt and pepper
1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
Instructions
Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of vegetable broth to a large saucepan on medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, for 4 minutes. Let the onions brown a bit, but add more vegetable broth if needed to keep them from burning. Add the tomatoes, salt, and pepper, then simmer, stirring occasionally for about 4 to 6 minutes. Add the shrimp and cover. Simmer until shrimp are cooked through, 3 to 5 minutes. Serve with the cauliflower rice.

Cauliflower Rice
1 head cauliflower, any size
Instructions
Cut the cauliflower into large chunks and place in a food processor. Pulse carefully until the cauliflower is completely broken down. (Pull out any unprocessed pieces.) Heat a large, nonstick frying pan on medium heat and add the raw cauliflower rice. Cook for 5 minutes stirring constantly until tender, a little browning is fine. Remove from heat and serve. Each 1 cup serving of cauliflower rice equals 2 servings of vegetables.
Note: The raw cauliflower rice can also be frozen for up to 3 months for later use. Thaw on the counter for a few minutes before using in a salad or cooking as described above.

Lemon Chicken and Zucchini
Vegetable broth
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
½ teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
3 small zucchini, thinly sliced
1 clove garlic, thinly sliced
1 lemon
Instructions
Heat the oven to 400°F. Season the chicken with ¼ teaspoon each of the salt and pepper. Place chicken in large baking pan, roast in oven for 12 minutes. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat 2 tablespoons vegetable broth, and add the zucchini, garlic, and remaining salt and pepper and cook until tender, about 3 minutes. Add to the baking pan with chicken, squeeze lemon over top and toss.

Lemon Fish with Asparagus
1 lb. asparagus
4 frozen of fresh fish filets, such as haddock or halibut, ½ to 1 inch thick
12 cherry tomatoes
2 green onions
Fresh lemon juice or sliced lemons
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425F (220C). Place four large pieces of foil or parchment paper on counter. These will become your bundles. Divide asparagus evenly between each bundle. Place one frozen or fresh fillet in center of each piece of foil. Slice tomatoes in half. Arrange tomatoes around fish. Coarsely chop the onions and scatter over tomatoes and fish. Squeeze lemon juice or arrange lemon slices overtop. Bring edges of foil together. Fold over and seal tightly to form a bundle. Place bundles, seam side up, on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake in center of preheated oven until a knife tip inserted in center of fish comes out warm, 15 to 25 minutes, depending on thickness of fish. Serve with ½ cup with cauliflower rice.

Grilled Steak with Cauliflower Mashed Potatoes
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon thyme
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon pepper
1 pound sirloin steak or strip steak, trimmed and cut into 4 portions
Instructions
Preheat grill to medium. Sprinkle both sides of steak with garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Place the steak on the grill, grill for 4 minutes per side for medium rare, 5 minutes per side for medium. Let the steak rest for 5 minutes. Serve steak with cauliflower mashed potatoes. (Recipe below.)

Cauliflower Mashed Potatoes
2 heads of fresh cauliflower
8 cups of vegetable broth
2 heads of fresh garlic
1 bundle of green onions
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Wash and cube the cauliflower into one inch squares. Add the chunks of cauliflower and vegetable broth to a large stock pot. Peel the garlic cloves and add to pot. Add chopped green onion to pot. Bring all ingredients to a boil for 20-25 minutes until cauliflower is tender.
Pour into colander. Use a potato masher in the colander to squeeze out as much liquid as possible. Mash the cauliflower, garlic, onion mixture to desired texture. Or if you prefer, you can use a blender or stand mixer to get the desired consistency. Add salt and pepper for taste. Use in place of mashed potatoes.

Spiced Pork Chops with Haricots Verts (French Green Beans)
¾ teaspoon ground chipotle chile pepper
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon ground coriander
¼ teaspoon black pepper
4 (4-ounce) boneless center-cut lean pork loin chops, trimmed
To prepare pork, heat a nonstick grill pan over medium-high heat. Combine chipotle, salt, garlic powder, ground coriander, and black pepper and sprinkle over pork. Add pork to pan; cook 4 minutes on each side or until done.
Slender haricots verts are an elegant and quick-cooking complement to any meal. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add 12 ounces haricots to pan; cook 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in ¼ teaspoon salt, black pepper to taste, and 2 thinly sliced garlic cloves; cook 5 minutes or until garlic is lightly browned.
To make preparation for these or any meals easier, you can take some time over the weekend to prepare cauliflower rice and freeze for future use. Whenever you are chopping vegetables, onions or garlic, chop extra and keep in the refrigerator for easy access. Keep vegetable broth on hand, either homemade or your favorite brand. With a little planning and preparation, you’ll soon be preparing quick and easy meals that will keep your diet on track.

Chiropractic Family Wellness

I thought this was a good article to share with you…

9 Reasons Why Chiropractic is for Kids

We all want what’s best for our family, and the evidence is clear: for your kids’ health, regular chiropractic care is the best option.
Most people think of back and neck pain when they think about chiropractic, and chiropractic is fantastic at treating those conditions. But chiropractic is much, much more than that! Countless scientific studies have shown that chiropractic is great at keeping you and your family healthy in many different ways. Chiropractic is truly wellness care. And it makes sense why: chiropractic works by restoring the function of your body’s nervous system by the removal of interference caused by disease, stress, or injury. When your nervous system is working properly, you’re healthier!

Here are some of the ways that chiropractic works to keep your kids well:

1 – Chiropractic Boosts Your Immune System
Research shows that chiropractic adjustments have positive, objective effects on your immunity. This is really important for kids, as they’re subjected to all kinds of bugs and viruses. A strong immune system in childhood makes for a healthier adulthood, too!

2 – Chiropractic Helps with Asthma
More and more kids are being diagnosed with asthma and other respiratory problems, and research from the last few years shows that chiropractic adjustments can help with these ailments by restoring the body’s natural function.

3 – Chiropractic Relieves Colic
In 2012, researchers studied 104 infants who were suffering from colic. They found that the parents reported a significant decrease in infant crying in the treated babies, compared to the infants who didn’t receive treatment.

4 – Chiropractic Helps Kids with Nocturnal Enuresis
Bedwetting is a tough problem for kids and parents, but a 2009 study found that chiropractic care helped 2 out of 3 children with this problem.

5 – Chiropractic Can Improve Posture
As our spine is subjected to stresses and injuries, it’s easy for it to lose flexibility and mobility that we need for health. Chiropractic works to restore the normal function of your spine, which also restores your natural, healthy posture.

6 – Chiropractic and ADHD
Numerous case studies published over the years suggest that chiropractic care might be helpful for kids with ADHD and attention problems.

7 – Chiropractic Reduces Stress
Research done in Japan found that chiropractic adjustments had immediate, positive effects on stress and cortisol levels. Kids are under more and more pressure each year with school and activities, so stress reduction is an important health goal for kids.

8 – Chiropractic is SAFE
We hear every day about the risks and dangers of drugs and surgical procedures, and we don’t want to subject our kids to that! Chiropractic is a healthy choice for people of all ages, especially children. A 2012 study looked at 20,000 pediatric patient visits for all kinds of health issues and found no serious side effects in the children.

9 – Chiropractic from Birth
When we hurt our neck or back, we go and visit our chiropractor for help. When a baby is born and exposed to neck injury during childbirth, it makes sense to take that child to a chiropractor, too! But it’s more important than just neck pain: a 2013 study from the Journal of Attention Disorders found that babies injured at birth were more likely to develop ADHD symptoms when they reach age eight. Your nervous system controls every aspect of your body, so a disruption at birth can have long-term consequences!
The science backs up what millions of parents know: chiropractic is the perfect way to keep your family healthy!

Avoiding Weight Gain After a Very-Low Calorie Diet
Posted by The ChiroThin Team on Thursday, July 23, 2015  -Re-posted (with additions) by Dr. Sarah Corcoran, July 27, 2015

If you just successfully completed the ChiroThin Weight-Loss program, congratulations! You have accomplished your goals and now it’s time to face the next one: keeping the weight off by creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It’s very important that you remain open to adopting new dietary habits and to refrain from your old ones. ChiroThin will help you through this process by providing you with a maintenance program, and guiding you throughout your health journey. Although your diet will not be as strict as in the active ChiroThin phase, it will still be more limited than how you were eating before you started our program. Here are a couple of tips to help you continue seeing success even after you’ve completed the active phase.

The first step is to consult with your doctor and create a maintenance plan. The ChiroThin program includes counseling and diet advice once you have completed the restricted diet plan. Our ChiroThin approved doctors really care about your progress and want you to succeed in all of your weight loss goals.  According to the American Society for Clinical Nutrition, you must undergo behavioral changes before you go back on a regular diet. “Very-low-calorie diets (VLCDS) cause rapid weight loss. However, weight regain is rapid upon discontinuing the VLCD unless lifestyle is altered. The addition of behavioral modification (BMOD) program improves the long-term outcome.” In other words, you will have to be willing to make some long-term changes to see long-term results, and that’s why our doctors are here to assist during the process!
Even if you’re completely satisfied with the results and are no longer interested in losing more weight, respecting the after phase of the program is equally as important as or even more so than the active phase. It’s imperative to be as disciplined with this more lenient diet as it’s very easy to gain back the weight. You will be given a very specific diet plan that will be adapted to your needs and you must remember that skipping meals is not an option. Also consult with your doctor about becoming more active. While you were in the ChiroThin, you had to limit your physical activity but now that you’re coming off of it, exercising is important.

It may seem redundant to change your lifestyle after you completely changed yourself, but isn’t that the end goal? You proved you have the willpower to drastically change your life, so now it’s time to take those skills you adapted and put them to a lifestyle that will only benefit you. The American Society for Clinical Nutrition mentions some of the differences you will have to make in order to successfully keep your weight-off, “The major components of a BMOD program to alter lifestyle are education about nutrition and eating habits with alteration of amount and patterns of eating, institution of an aerobic activity program designed to increase energy expenditure, training in self-awareness and assertiveness, and training in coping techniques for long-term alteration of lifestyle.” Making educated, and health conscious decisions that will only promote your success, not deteriorate it.

Completing the ChiroThin provides you with a sense of accomplishment and huge reward when you see the changes you’ve made. Make sure you don’t see all of your hard work go to waste! Consult your Chirothin approved doctor who will provide you with the plan that is right for you.
We are having great results with Rebecca Sauer determining your continued program after chirothin for continued weight loss or maintenance of your progress with the addition of exercise.

Ask us what trainer we work with that may be the best for you.

JUNE 10, 2015 BY WICKED GOOD WELLNESS GROUP LEAVE A COMMENT(EDIT)

The headline below struck me and intreged me to read on….At Wicked Good Chiropractic I am alsways leading our team to do just that…Customer Service is supposed to be first. When I worked at Starbucks I did get a lot of training on what they called “3rd place”. That is what I want for our office. 3rd Place is: You have 3 places you feel comfortable: 1. your home, 2. your work & 3. (put place here); of course with Starbucks it was your coffee shop…but here we hope you chose Wicked Good Chiropractic.

This is an interesting read by Joshua Rosethal from Integrative Nutrition.

PS~We (Rebecca & Dr. Sarah) will be enrolling after our Re-certification with Metagenics as Lifestyle Educators….

Why is it that you get treated so much better at Starbucks than at the doctor’s office?

You walk up to the counter, the barista politely offers you dozens of options, and answers all of your questions.

Doctors, on the other hand, rush because the healthcare system forces them to see so many patients each day. They barely look up from their clipboards, ask a few routine questions, and then send you on your way.

That’s pretty crazy! Have you ever experienced that for yourself?

That’s why I knew I had to send you this blog post about how Integrative Nutrition Health Coaches are leading the revolution in the healthcare system. And not a minute too soon, because the existing system is unspeakably bad. Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments.

A few years ago, almost nobody in the general population knew what a Health Coach was. Now, step-by-step, there is growing awareness about the incredible need for Integrative Nutrition Health Coaches

I’m committed to doing everything I can to ensure that as a school, we continue to lead this revolution. We’re constantly innovating our curriculum to provide the best possible education with superior teachers. Our educational partnerships provide ongoing enrichment opportunities for our graduates.

In addition to all that, there are national health coaching certification standards that are moving through various levels of government. I’m deeply involved in accelerating this process and ensuring that our graduates stay at the forefront of this emerging profession

The epidemic of chronic disease is very serious, but it’s important to stay positive. You can play an important role by spreading the word about Integrative Nutrition Health Coaches and how we are making the world a healthier, happier place.

The main thing to see is that we are at the forefront of a huge wave that’s coming to replace the existing medical monopoly. Together we are strong!

To your future,

Joshua Rosenthal

In Response to the FDA Crackdown on HCG Companies

BEWARE of Buying Products From The Internet!!!!

New Update on the FDA (12/15/2011):

The FDA and FTC have indicated the kinds of language that can trigger these concerns and potential enforcement actions within the letters they sent to the 7 companies manufacturing and distributing OTC (over-the counter) and online.  Some of the keywords are “Permanent Weight Loss,” and “Lose 30 Pounds In 26 Days,” –  In essence, referencing specific amounts of weight loss in a specific amount of time.

You will notice that these keywords have been removed from these advertisements and we’ll continue to avoid them into the future.  You’ll notice our new tagline is “6 Weeks To A New You.” Begin using this new tag line in all print ads and external marketing.

Our Company did NOT get a letter, although they have updated all marketing “wording” associated with the product.

Good Morning ChiroHCG Doc’s,

By now many of you have probably heard rumors or read articles stating that Homeopathic HCG has been pulled off the market by the FDA.  This is not accurate!

On Tuesday (12/6/2011), 7 large on-line sellers of HCG received notification that they are to stop selling their HCG products.  From what we can discern, it appears that the issue is marketing related due to some of the statements the on-line retailers are making and the fact that there is no physician involved in the recommendation, administration and/or supervision of the individual while recommending a VLCD.

Neither our manufacturer nor ChiroNutraceutical have received the above mentioned letter.  Because of this, we are still able to manufacture and ship our formula.

If you are still concerned, please know that we have had the formulation for a hormone-free version of our product for nearly 9 months.  This formulation does not use any form of HCG in the manufacturing process and the finished product does not contain HCG.  I have instructed our manufacturer to begin production of this formula and it should be “bottle ready” in 2-4 weeks, should you wish to begin using this formula in your office.

So you are aware, it has been 1 year to the day since the FDA made their last comments regarding homeopathic HCG.  As I said last year, the FDA has always frowned upon anything that causes people to get healthier that Big Pharma cannot profit from.

Please know that we are staying on top of this matter and will do everything in our power to keep helping people live healthier and happier lives.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dr. Jason Strotheide
